Sarah Hall

Born in Columbus OH on February 4, 1938. She gradated from L. McKinnley High School but during her senior year she entered the workforce as a part-time secretary for the JF Schuman and Son Realtors. Upon graduation Sarah became the full time secretary for the realtors where she worked for the next ten years. She was then recruited to the Battelle Memorial Institute where she was Secretary to the Director of Transportation of Research for a period of five years. At this time a sponsor to the Battelle Memorial Institute, The School Management Institute offered Sarah the position of Secretary to the President of SMI, a position she held until through the end of 1975.

In late 1975, a friend called her to tell her about a secretary position she thought Sarah should explore. The opening was with a group entitled the American Society of Criminologists (ASC). Sarah met with then ASC Treasurer Harry Allen for an initial interview. This interview was followed by a second meeting with Simon Dinitz and John Conrad of ASC. In February 0f 1976, Sarah Hall came to work as the Secretary of the American Society of Criminologists, a position she held for thirty years. In January of 2006, Sarah retired. During her thirty years in service to the ASC, Sarah witnessed the start of the DWC and the other divisions that followed. Sarah noted how active the DWC became in getting things done within the ASC and how other divisions followed in the footsteps of the DWC. IN her years of service, Sarah remarked how blessed she was to be able to travel with the ASC and to meet so many wonderful people nationally as well as internationally. Her connections to the DWC remains one of support and caring. In recognition of the many years of service and dedication to the DWC, we have named the DivisionNews “SARAH.”
