Advising
Academic advising is an integral part of students' success, and, as such, it is the mission of the student services office in the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice to provide the highest possible quality academic advising and counseling services to undergraduate students to ensure they reach their career and academic potential.
The student services office helps students with all academic concerns such as registration and scheduling of classes, withdrawals, special exceptions, long-range academic planning, major and University requirements, grade issues, professional and graduate school preparation, graduation checks, and certification.
We encourage students to meet with an advisor often, and when planning course schedules, it's best to see an advisor early before the registration period begins.
Academic advising is provided by appointment Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Walk-in advising hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in summer. The student services office is staffed with full-time advisors, and although students are not assigned to specific advisors, freshmen and sophomore students typically meet with basic division advisors and junior and senior students meet with upper division advisors.
The College's advisors distribute an e-newsletter to undergraduate students to keep them up to date on programs, College happenings, and other information relevant to students' academic careers: CCJ Advisor. Make sure to read the newsletter when it arrives in your in box. Additionally, the bulletin boards in the College highlight information about faculty research, international programs, graduate programs, career preparation, and other important information critical to undergraduate students. Stop by the Hecht House and take a look.
Mapping
Mapping is FSU's academic system that monitors student progress to ensure completion of a bachelor's degree within four years. Mapping provides an 8 semester, four year plan and includes milestones that are to be met within a designated semester. Milestones include completion of specific courses, earning minimum grades, and maintaining good academic standing.
