Admissions Requirements

Students seeking admission are expected to meet these requirements:

• A bachelors degree from an accredited university or college
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 for all junior and senior-level coursework or a GRE score of 1000 or higher on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE. (All applicants must report a GRE score to verify meeting the University requirement for taking the test. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.)
• International students whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and score at least 600 on the paper-based test, at least 250 on the computer-based test, or at least 100 on the Internet-based ibTOEFL test.

Distance Learning Application Procedure

Complete the application and upload materials at admissions.fsu.edu.

1. Application (with a $30.00 non-refundable application fee)
2. Official transcripts
3. GRE score
4. TOFEL scores for international students.
5. A 300-500 word personal statement describing your reasons for seeking a professional degree through a distance learning program
6. Your current resume

Note: Please select Criminal Justice Studies as the major and 34-9411 as the program code.

Application Deadlines

• For the Fall Semester: July 1
• For the Spring Semester: November 1
• For the Summer Semester: March 1

Special Student Admissions

A special student status is assigned to non-degree seeking students who want to enroll in graduate-level courses. All registration as a special student is on a space available basis and may require departmental approval. Admission as a special student does not guarantee acceptance to the University as a degree-seeking student.

Students seeking reclassification from the special student status to regular degree seeking student status must submit an application following the standard admission procedures. Please refer to the admission section of the University's Graduate Bulletin at www.fsu.edu

A maximum of 12 credit hours earned as a special student may be applied toward a graduate degree.

Drop/Add

Students may add or drop classes themselves from their schedule through the fourth day of classes. For deadline date, refer to the Academic Calendar on the Registrar’s Web site: http://registrar.fsu.edu. Students who cancel their registration within this time frame are not liable for tuition.

Permanent Withdrawal

To drop all classes or your only class, you must formally withdraw from the University. Do so by contacting your academic coordinator at rarshad@fsu.edu, and then Withdrawal Services, 850-644-1741

There is no grade liability through the fourth week of the semester.

Students who cancel their registration and are not enrolled for the following term (not enrolled for two consecutive terms) must apply for readmission.

Readmission

Returning students who meet the following criteria must submit an application to the readmissions section of the Office of the University Registrar.

1. Students who have been dismissed.
2. Students who withdrew during a previous term.
3. Students who canceled their registration and were not enrolled during the previous semester.
4. Students who have been out of school for two or more consecutive terms (including the summer term) (finishing an incomplete does not count, you must be registered).

Students claiming classification as Florida residents must also reestablish their eligibility for this classification when applying for readmission.

The University reserves the right to refuse readmission to any student who has an unsatisfactory academic, conduct, or health record. Students who are denied readmission to the University may appeal that decision by filing a written petition with the Dean's office.
